Topics of discussion included how federal government experts create engaging content, emergency response and management, best practices in engaging citizens for state and local government and the legal aspects of social media and “what’s next” for social media in government. Several Federal agencies took part in the seminar amongst which included the Department of the Interior, the Department of Homeland Security, the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), the US Army and other Department of Defense agencies as well as many state and local agencies. Tim Fullerton, the Director of Digital Strategy for the US Department of the Interior was the Keynote Speaker. Other speakers included the Director of New Media for the Governor’s Office in Minnesota, the Chief Information Officer for Wake County, and the Social Media Coordinator for the California State Parks.
