When we first conceived the project of the portal: www.viverhoje.org, our first thought was that it would have to be fully accessible. The idea that all people could have the quality of information fascinated us. This was made possible through a partnership between the Instituto Viver Hoje and ReadSpeaker®. ReadSpeaker is an easily accessible tool that makes the difference every day in our portal. It is used not only to facilitate the health professional in reading articles but also by everyone who does not master reading and by people with low vision.Cristina Gomes, President of Instituto Viver Hoje
GSK always wishes to propose the highest access to our online content. With ReadSpeaker® we offer a very high quality audio version of our site www.gsk.fr. The implementation was very easy and quick and the functionalities are very flexible and customisable. Our users benefit from a very useful service which requires no software or plug-in download. ReadSpeaker® speech-enables our website since October 2004.Fabrice Vezin, Responsable Intranet/Internet
KidsHealth.org is the #1 site devoted to children’s health and development in English and Spanish. Each year, over 200 million parents, kids, and teens turn to KidsHealth.org for expert answers, making it the Web’s most-accessed site on children’s health. KidsHealth comes from Nemours, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit pediatric health systems. KidsHealth.org implemented ReadSpeaker® audio functionality for users with reading difficulties and those who prefer to read along with highlighted text. The ReadSpeaker® audio functionality significantly improves the site’s usability. The ReadSpeaker listen function on KidsHealth.org has more than 1 million activations per month, which represents 3% to 5% of the pageviews.
The ReadSpeaker software is ideal for online visitors with reading handicaps such as dyslexia or anyone who prefers to have information read aloud. Readspeaker® also makes our website more accessible to a larger audience, some of whom may not have any other source for online health information.Neil Izenberg, MD, founder and editor-in-chief
The Health On the Net Foundation (HON) promotes and guides the deployment of useful and reliable online health information, and its appropriate and efficient use. Created in 1995, HON is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, accredited to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. HON is a long time customer of ReadSpeaker.
We have been impressed since the start with the ease of implementation and use of the ReadSpeaker® application. Our users are very satisfied with the quality of the text to speech feature and the very short time required to generate the audio. Another positive factor is that ReadSpeaker® is web-based, so that no downloads are required for our web site users to listen to our content in English and French, and more languages in the near future. We are also thinking of integrating ReadSpeaker's technology into our mobile applications so as to make on-the-go listening a useful add-on.Célia Boyer, Executive Director
We work hard to make the site accessible to a wide audience and for all users and technologies. Implementing the ‘listen’ function is an innovative way of extending the service, enabling users to have the page read aloud to them.Ben Foster, Operations Director
