“ReadSpeaker works seamlessly in converting our text content into high-quality audio. It fits nicely into the Universal Design for Learning principles and appeals to all students with various needs.”
“Ensuring that our courses are multimedia-rich and suitable for all learners is something that is central to our mission. ReadSpeaker was a natural fit. The Listen button gives all of our students an audio option…Within seconds, we enabled it on a course level and within all lessons, so VHS students can have all course web pages and documents read to them with one click of a button. Since implementing the technology, we’ve been encouraged by how popular it’s been.”
“We are seeing an increasing demand from the market for reading assistance technology. By integrating Readspeaker’s tool into ‘AssessmentQ’, which is our study and assessment platform, we can easily offer our customers and their users this added value. In addition, it fits perfectly within our ecosystem. It just makes sense for us to leverage text-to-speech experts such as ReadSpeaker, allowing us to focus on our own core competence.”

Assessments are intended to measure student progress in a specific area. To accomplish that, educators must remove barriers to engagement with the material, for example, those related to reading comprehension or reading skills (unless, of course, it’s a reading fluency assessment!). That way, you can be sure you’re assessing each student’s ability with regard to your learning objectives—not the student’s current level of focus.
Many students perform better when they hear assessment questions as opposed to reading them. Text-to-speech tools in particular provide an important read-aloud accommodation. The use of assistive technology tools meets a variety of individual student needs, whether that means reading passages out loud or removing distractions associated with screen reading.
Assistive technology can usually be integrated into LMSs and assessment platforms to level the playing field for all students.
Text to speech supports learners of all ages—from elementary students to higher education students—in the classroom and at home by providing reading assistance. It levels the playing field for students with learning disabilities and helps them stay at peer level in all subjects.
Keep in mind, too, that text to speech isn’t just for special education students; large numbers of students say they also appreciate the support it provides for completing online assignments and test-taking.
Research has shown that TTS does play a role in improving a student’s reading skills. It provides a crucial pronunciation guide, helps readers successfully decode text to better understand the material, and improves word recognition. It’s an excellent tool for English Language Arts (ELA) teachers, as well as teachers of other subjects.
Assistive technology tools that use speech synthesis can be included in a student’s IEP plan, giving them autonomy for studying and allowing struggling readers to be assessed fairly.
ReadSpeaker TTS is embedded in quizzes in all major LMSs. For Respondus LockDown Browser or other locked browsers, the student will see the Listen button or will click the Activation Tab which launches the Listen button. In most LMSs, the student will need to highlight what they want to read and then click Listen.
